Androcur: New French public health scandal over 'miracle' drug

In this Science segment, we look at the public health scandal surrounding a prescription drug called Androcur. First used in the 1980s to treat acne, hair loss or hirsutism (excessive body hair), it was later prescribed as a contraceptive pill. But the drug may be responsible for causing tumours in thousands of patients. Paris's Grand Palais: A rare glimpse at a colossal renovation project

French beekepers prepare for killer Asian hornets to emerge from hibernation

Asian hornets were first detected on French soil in 2004, and the invasive species has since spread rapidly across the country and the rest of Europe, including Germany, Spain and the UK. Asian hornets are known to be a major cause of high bee mortality, with entire colonies wiped out in as little as several days. Earlier this month, the French government launched a nationwide strategy to combat their proliferation. Notre-Dame, five years after the flames: A symbol of resilience

Exactly five years ago, the world watched in horror as Paris's Notre-Dame Cathedral was ravaged by flames. Today, carpenters and artisans are hammering away to meet a December 8 deadline for the Gothic landmark's grand reopening. Spectators attending the Paris Olympics this summer will already be able to admire the renovated structure from the outside. Meanwhile, life has resumed on the Île de la Cité, the island that's home to Notre-Dame in the historical heart of the French capital. Exactly five years after the fire that destroyed the roof and badly damaged the rest of Paris's Notre-Dame Cathedral, one of those who worked on the project has spoken of the camaraderie of the team reconstructing the edifice and the skill of their achievement. Valentin Pontarollo is a carpenter who finished working on the roof just a few weeks ago. The carpentry of the structure is now complete.
